You Have A Big Mouth

I am talking about Wallene.  My lovely, darling Wallene.

Actually she doesn't have a big mouth.  In fact, her mouth is too small to accommodate all of her teeth and the orthodontist had to put in an expander.

The word alone makes me cringe.

Ouch, ouchitty, ouch.

It is a contraption in the roof of her mouth that her Dad must insert a key into and turn.  Every morning.

:Repeat the ouch factor here:

I looked at it once and I never want to see it again. Thankyouverymuch.

If you would like to see it she managed to take pictures. [Don't ask me how - but they are pretty funny] They are here:  Wallene

Next step braces. Yipppee!

Yup! Looks like our daughter is going to need some orthodontic work too. Sigh!

my daughter had the same problem, mouth too small for all her teeth. it was pull four teeth or wear a lip bumper for a year. this was a wire around the outside of her bottom teeth that prevented her bottom lip from touching her teeth. the orthodontist said that the lip is a powerful muscle and keeping it off her teeth would allow her jaw to expand, grow to accommodate all her teeth. (I guess the top teeth would follow suit). sounds kinda dumb now but that's what we did and she did not have to have any teeth pulled.

Eeek! That can't be very pleasant for poor Wallene, especially when Pooldad has to tighten the key each night. Boo! Good job Pooldad is big and strong and doesn't mind doing it!! Hee Hee! I did pop across to Wallene's blog and looked at the photos. I'm now following her. Hope she doesn't mind. She probably doesn't want all her mum's friends stalking her! LOL!!

The word "torture" comes to mind. I hope it isn't too painful.

I've got to be honest, but I had an expander in my upper jaw for close to a year when I had braces, and I was horrified at first too.

Then the orthodontist tightened it.

To me? No pain whatsoever. I would compare it to sinus pressure instead. It wears off in about 5 minutes.

Oh yeah, and they STILL had to yank adult teeth due to my jaw being too small, even after the expander.

I will say, I did get a big kick out of showing people and explaining what it did. "See this thing here? It breaks and separates the bones in my upper jaw! MUHAHAHA!!"

My daughter did the expander thing and then braces for a couple of years. Had to have four baby teeth pulled too because they didn't come out fast enough. She never complained about the expander. Only the teeth pulling.

And now she has the most beautiful smile. It was so worth it.

Now I just hurt!

I and both kids had to have this done. It isn't as painful as it looks... just makes your mouth a tinge sore.

Hugs to Wallene

I had to have the same thing back in the day. Ahh...Good times! There's always the headgear to look forward to later! haha...
It will all be worth it in the end when all that stuff comes out of her mouth and all that's left is her picture perfect smile :)
(I'm sure it's already perfect in her mama's eyes, but you know what I mean ;)

That makes me glad that my mouth is fine especially after getting all my wisdom teeth pulled.

As someone with a very small mouth I an say I am glad it isn't in my mouth I can barely get two fingers between my top and bottom teeth, so I hate and I do mean hate goint to the dentist with their open wide crfap if I could open wide I bloody well would.

braces, yay. we went through 5 sets of braces, and we only have 4 kids! I think we helped the dental guys go on many great vacations! good luck to her and stock up on applesauce and other super soft foods!!
