My Daughter's High School Strikes Again

Jiminy Crickets!

The Seniors at Squirrel's High School had an All Night Party scheduled at an area restaurant tonight from Midnight until 5 am. Sort of a "Midnight Madness Party" for them.

They were to be dropped off at school at 10:30 pm to be driven to their destination by Midnight. On school provided busses.

Pooldad loaded up the Squirrel at 10:20 to drive her over to the school only for me to receive a recorded message from the school at 10:30 stating that the event had been cancelled.

Because?

[thump.thump.thump. ::sound of my head hitting the keyboard::]

Someone forgot to order the BUSSES to take 300 kids on a Midnight field trip.

::crickets chirping::

A once a year, Senior field trip. [i.e. a SPECIAL trip]

The trip was for MIDNIGHT - who forgets the only field trip of the year that occurs IN.THE.MIDDLE.OF.THE.NIGHT?

Also?

A paid in advance Senior field trip. [i.e. a $$$ trip]

That someone FORGOT.TO.ORDER.BUSSES.TO.TAKE.THEM.

ARGHH!

And before anyone asks - No, we weren't allowed to drive our own children to the restaurant. That would be a "liability" tadpoles, dontcha' know?

I swear this is the one time I wish my blog wasn't semi-anonymous - because I would love to tout the incompetence of the person that is responsible at the school who FORGOT TO ORDER THE BUSSES.

ETA: I just realized I can go over to FACEBOOK and be un-anonymous [is that even a word? oh who cares - I am still simply amazed at all of this.] ::Off to FB...[mumbling] forgot to order the freak'n busses...stupid person...busses...dangit...::

Um - I think the parents could have simply said, hey kids, lets go out. I know a place that will have loads of space to hold a bunch of us. Wink wink nudge nudge. Screw the "school" and their liability.

I'm with Jeannie. What's the school going to do to you, especially when one of their staff screwed up an official prepaid school outing?

I'd love to hear that person's excuse because you know they'll have one.

that's pathetic.

i hope the school does something major to make it up to the kids.

Well first off ,I'm sure the restraunt still has to be paid! At the least a deposit is lost. Who pays for that? I would want every penny of my money back!
You win Skippy,LOL! That school is worse than ours. I still think I would call the local news people and let them know what happened!

Totally unbelievable, what in heaven's name were they thinking (obviously they weren't). Kids are disappointed enough these days without the people they are supposed to respect and look to for leadership to forget about an important event. Go kick some scholastic butt Skippy!!!!

I personally hate those all-night parties that schools have. Here, we have Project Graduation, which is a huge deal, fundraising all year, constant pleas for volunteers, donations, etc. But it's supposed to be a safe and non-gettingdrunk way to celebrate graduation. You know, to keep the kids off the streets and locked in a gym all together, getting their palms read and winning prizes.
But our Project Graduation starts at about 9 p.m. and ends at 1 or 2 a.m. So in the middle of the night, just before all the bars close, the gym doors open and 400 teenagers are let out into the night. Most of them have restricted driver's licenses so they're technically not allowed to drive between midnight and 5 a.m. It's the craziest thing I ever heard of.

I can imagine, though, how disappointed your daughter and all the other kids were to have the party canceled at the last minute.

I CAN NOT believe that! I can't imagine how upset all the kids were. You can't even try to calm the situation and say, "next year." There is no next year!!!
