Wallene came home from school today and said "Mom I was reading the newspaper today and look what I found - two homes for sale you might like!" [Yes, she reads the whole newspaper and loves the real estate ads just like her Momma.]
~
This particular home, as you can see, is in a different state as we live now. Once that would've been a problem but since I am now the sole [biological] parent and the Squirrel is graduating in June it suddenly occured to me that we could actually live in WV without her missing her high school years.
~
Hmm...so I looked in up in MLS.
~
It is 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom, 3 level single family built in 2003. Interesting. Hmm....

Do you want to know what got me all excited? The price: $145,000.00!!!
~
Can you believe that? I was shocked. Where we live now you can't buy a townhome for under $200,000.00. We have been considering $250,000.00 [circa 1972] townhomes for the past few months because our lease is up in June and we need to move.
~
The second thing that was even more exciting? The commute for Pooldad: 38 miles. Now that may seem lengthy but it is approximately 50 minutes from WV while his commute now is 30 minutes because of congestion.
~
And the third most exciting thing? Our mortgage payment would be HALF of what we pay in rent. Think a 4 digit savings. Alrighty then. :D
~
So twice the house and yard for $100,000.00 less and money in our pocket?
~
Yep! I think so.

Your kid is hilarious. Looking up the MLS listings . . . :D
Cute house!
Not to throw cold water on the situation... but look ahead... has squirrel decided where she is going to go to college yet?- will she be out of state if you buy in WV? and if you are... how much will that affect her tuition etc.?
Ya ya.. I know... I am anal about stuff like that... :D
Hey Barb - great question, but way ahead of you - all Squirrel's college choices are private although 2 are still in VA they don't offer in state tuition.
That is a cute house. How wonderful for you!
Added to that, we swing through WV en route to Myrtle Beach from Ohio!
We think its wonderful that you now have the option to pick up and move it that's what you choose to do. How sweet of your daughter to keep her eyes open for opportunities. SOmething tells me she'll do fine out here in this world. :) Best wishes on finding the perfect location for your family.
Whoa 145,000? That's considered a steal nowadays! Built it 2003, is it a manufactured home? Still unbelievable.

Hi Hype - Nope, it is stick built and being within commuting distance of DC [Marc Train] it IS a steal for around here.
Thanks for stopping by.
That's really exciting! As for Pooldad's commute, from my opinion I'd rather drive farther if I don't have to fight the traffic/congestion. It is amazing to me the differences in the prices of real estate.
do it! I know I would!!
I like it. The nice thing about your area is that all those states are close together. Blink and you're in another state.
We started our mortgage process today and will be closing within a month. THen it's moving time again.
One word of advice (OK, more than one word): make sure there is a bedroom on the lower level of such a home. Even if you don't use it now, you may need it down the road. I thought about how I'll feel about climbing the stairs to get to my bed when I'm 70, and bought a house with one main floor bedroom and 3 upstairs.
Have fun house hunting, Skippy.
Nice house! I think the price is fabulous, too. Good luck with the maybe-move.
That's so exciting!
That is super cute....Sign me up! LOL. What a great price! Go for it!
oh this kills me! I wish I could show you the house my mom is thinking of buying in Toronto! It's so small, and so expensive- and still needs $150,000 renovations! My boyfriend and I are looking into buying a place, and it's just not possible - 700 sq feet is going to be 300,000 - at least! It's so tough! I'm so happy for you that this is in your future! And squirrel's college options seem amazing! I'm so sure she'll love university. I had the time of my life there!
