Nicely Done Britain!

How fantastic were the opening ceremonies of the London Olympics? WOW!

Our favorite parts were the Queen and what a great sense of humor she has. I don't know if you can say this about a Monarch, but she is so cute.  We also enjoyed all the wonderful music through the years and the London Symphony Orchestra with Rolan Atkinson.  And, of course, "Hey Jude" at the end.
Just fabulous.  I am still smiling.

So. . . .

In honor of our friends across the [true] pond I made y'all a cake.
Chocolate Peppermint Cake
With Whipped Chocolate Frosting and Peppermint filling
When Pooldad mentioned it was a round Union Jack Wallene replied "It's a round cake."
heehee
It was really good according to Spottie.
It was so strange - but in a good way -  to see the streets so quiet at 8:00 pm because everyone was home watching the ceremonies.  I am so excited for the next two weeks. We love the Olympics. :D

Enjoy your weekend Tadpoles - we'll see ya' on the flipside.

Thank you for that SkippyMom! And what a very special cake you have made for us there. I do hope that you have put a slice back for me, and that your family haven't scoffed the whole lot by the time you read this. Well, I know what they're like with their food!! I'm so glad you enjoyed the ceremony. I thought it was so typically British and, like you, really thought the Queen and James Bond sketch was brill, and also Mr Bean, who is so stupid, but that really is our sense of humour!!! I love David Beckham, so glad to see that he had a small part. Thought that boat trip up the Thames with the fireworks was great and the lighting of that cauldron was inspired! Onwards to the sports! Thanks for giving your pals across the pond a mention o beautiful one!!!

Awww thanks for the lovely cake. Wish I was there to partake of a slice. I loved the opening ceremony, so beautifully done showing Britain through the ages. Mr Bean was inspired and James Bond and the Queen was hilarious. My favourite bit was the Great Ormond Street hospital with J K Rowling reading. Really beautifully done. Have a great day.

I managed to watch until Poland came out but had to go to bed, it was nearly 00:30. I've never thought of the Queen as cute, she usually looks grumpy.

Nice cake! Olympics? hmmm I've never seen the opening ceremonies ever. I never watch the games. yawn.

But if it's something you enjoy, then enjoy!

Peppermint chocolate cake huh? Why didn't I think of that? I've always loved peppermint patties, and chocolate chip mint ice cream...

That's what I was thinking too Jeannie. The white icing in the middle and the decorator icing I made have peppermint extract in them and the cake is a basic chocolate cake mix with just a hint of mint.

I am surprised you have never seen the opening ceremonies. They are so cool, no matter where they have them....but the last few have been extra spectacular. Try it, you'll like it....giggle

didn't watch it either. and why 'Hey Jude'? I hate that song, have never liked it, thought it was dumb when it came out, never understood it's popularity.if you played all the Beatles songs and asked me to pick which one wasn't theirs, that's the one I would pick. It's only marginally better than MacArthur Park which I also hate. OK, I feel better now.

My favorite part was the rings in the air. Fantastic. And Mr. Bean... who doesn't love Mr. Bean. :)

Cake sounds yummy.... I'm thinking I should make brownies... but not the "special" kind that Michael Phelps allegedly eats...

Tracy aren't you in Oklahoma? Or are you British? giggle - You are welcome anytime - Brit or not :D - and let me know your favorite, and I am there.

Just wanted to stop by and say thanks for always having a positive comment for me. Even when I'm being a grumpy asshole on my blog. :) Cute cake!

You are making me crave cake or some kind of baked sweet! I'm too busy sewing right now to make anything, though --Plus, the material I'm working with right now is white linen and I sew at the kitchen table...so I'd be afraid I'd splatter something all around... Maybe later this week.

C-A-K-E !!!! why didn't I think to make cake, too. Any excuse for cake-ing is valid and justified and essential. ((burp))
