My Husband Is A [Sometime] Single Parent

Truly. He is so great at what he does, so, yes, I can overlook the electricity thing. [That post was supposed to be funny btw.]

I know I am here everyday. I can call the school, sign paperwork, coordinate carpools, sign up for the family to volunteer, answer the phone, take messages, send emails . . . but, let's just look at what Pooldad manages on a random Monday:
  • He arrived at work at 6:45 am and worked 8.5 hours
  • Before he left for work he ran to the store to get a few things I needed
  • On his way home he picked up the youngest from a sleepover
  • Once home he finished three loads of laundry
  • Grocery shopped for the week -we call this big shopping & it is big
  • Made homemade chicken noodle soup for dinner
  • Baked two kinds of homemade cookies - some for lunches, some to send to our daughter at college
  • Made sure I was okay while I bathed and dressed for bed
  • Fed, watered and walked the dogs - not to mention cleaning up a dog mess
  • He didn't want to go to bed early, although tired, because we like some time together at night
Best part? He doesn't have a blog. No, wait. I kid, I kid.  He does all of this without complaint and those of you who have read my blog for long know this.

What I do is nominal.  And no, I am not looking for anything else to be said here, so please don't. He could easily do what I do in addition to what he does, but that fact that he does all of this happily and without complaint makes me a very, very, very fortunate woman.

Please do not think that I don't know that.

It isn't a birthday, anniversary or some other special day. It is simply a random day in our life.

And I think my husband does it with aplomb.

Thank you S. I love you.

You do have yourself a keeper. The best part is that he would help out even if you were feeling a lot better. Hugs to both of you.

I thought my husband was the only one doing all sorts of "non-traditional" tasks, and I agree, isn't it great? Last night he treated all the cats with anti-flea goop, I didn't even know he was doing it until it was done. This after cooking dinner and cleaning up the kitchen. Gotta love 'em.

You definitely have a keeper. While I was down, my husband did very little extra although I'm sure in his mind he was hard pressed. Hard pressed because stuff didn't get done just because he wanted it out of the way.

However, for some reason, he took it upon himself to vacuum (which I'd done the day before) and clean the bathroom on Sunday although he missed the mirrors and the toilet and the bath itself...but you know, he tried.

You & pooldad have a true partnership... marriage isn't counting tit for tat as we both well know - it is doing what you can for your spouse without being asked. This is something you recognize and appreciate in pooldad. You know if your situations were reversed you'd be doing whatever you could to help him out. You are lucky to have each other! Hugs!

Wait, he did all that and made two batches of cookies? Sheesh. Lucky you. But then you know that.

That's because he loves you Skippy! My husband isn't that active either for medical reasons, but I know he appreciates all chores I do. :D

he is definitely a sweetie. i know this just from talking to him and your posts. you won the lottery with him, for sure. it's wonderful when the caretakee appreciates the caretaker in private, and special when it's done in public.

I'm learning that men have such special qualities. Women who moan and whine because their hubby's don't lift a finger are getting fewer and fewer. Back in the 50's when women could be stay at home wives and mothers it was less expected of men to help out around the house. In today's time when it takes two incomes to survive men are stepping up to the plate more and more. Even my hubby, who has physical disabilities, steps forward and empties the diswasher, reloads it, vacuums and mops the floors. This may not seem like a lot to some people but doing the floors for him is a big job and it takes him a couple of days to recrup after doing them. But no matter how he is feeling when I get home from work on Friday afternoon the floors are done, the bathrooms are cleaned and him and the Pugs meet me at the door with a how was your day. God bless these mean that step up to the plate to make thier wives lives a little bit easier. Now if we could all find one with the energy that Pooldad has, I'M sure we'd figure out a way to clone them real fast.
