Although Squirrel had just returned to college on Sunday, January 8th, she insisted that she come back home for her Great Grandmother's birthday party on Saturday, January 14th. Even with a new semester underway and all the stuff that goes along with that her Daddy picked her up Friday night.
You would think she hadn't been home for a month just a mere week ago because her and Wallene were thick as thieves all weekend. They are 5 years apart in age, but they get along so well. We were a little concerned when I was pregnant with Wallene that Squirrel might be a bit jealous being replaced as the "baby" of the family, but it simply never happened. [Score!]
Besides the party on Saturday, these two spent the entire 3 day weekend studying. They spread out over the family room [next to the kitchen] and studied, studied, studied - and ate - and then studied some more.
Imagine the smile on my face when I found the note Squirrel left for Wallene before she left yesterday:
The "You is kind..." quote is from the movie "The Help" that we watched last week. Sniff, sniff...
I can honestly say I have no idea how much Pooldad and I influenced how these two treat eachother and how close they are, but I will say it really warms my heart. I am so happy that, no matter what, they have eachother.
Now I can't wait for Spring Break. Woohoo!
Have a good one Tadpoles.

that is just wonderful. i have that kind of relationship with my youngest sister and we're 8 years apart. had that with my oldest sister, too - we were 4.5 years apart. the one that is 6 years younger than me doesn't have that kind of relationship with anyone. she's quite the opposite.
your girls are such a treat to read about, too.
Ahhhh. It's so great they get along - my sister and I did too but we were 9 years apart.
Warms your heart! My girls are close. They are both opinionated and things can get loud with them, but they love each other fiercely! My son is the peace maker and always there to listen and never judge. The three of them get together a lot and their children are growing up together. I never had the whole cousin experience, so this makes me extremely happy.
I can only hope that my boys fury lessens to just not wanting to kill each other all the time.
I swear, raising them has prepared me for a great job as a referee.
Your fabulous, loving family needs to start a fan club, because I'd be first in line as club member. And I'm gonna needs autographs.
What a blessing. There is no guarantee no matter how far apart or close they are in age. I'm sure their closeness makes your heart smile.
That's lovely to hear that they get along so well. Just as sisters shall [I think]. Have a great day my friend! And stay warm xx
When things get you down you can always remember this and think, 'At least we got this right'.
This is such a heartwarming post my friend. How wonderful that they are so close like that, and what a lovely little note Squirrel left for Wallene, especially the quote from The Help! Bless!Sending hugs to you from across the pond.
that's lovely!!! our daughters are spread out too, the oldest is 28, next is 25, then 24 then 18. The older ones really dote on and okay, spoil Miss V. but it's a good thing since she is so much younger and has spent her teen years as an only child!
I'm definitely jealous of Squirrel and Wallene... I've always wanted a sister. I was 8 yrs old when my youngest brother was born and I was a bit devastated that he wasn't a girl (I asked my mom if we could trade him in for a girl). I love all of my brothers, but I always wonder what it would have been like to have a sister, too.
