There Won't Be A "Best Part of My Day" Today

Everyday when Wallene leaves for school she will kiss me goodbye and when she makes it to the front door she says "Bye. I love you. See you at 4!"  And I have always responded "Best part of my day! Love you too."

But I didn't get to say it this morning.

It is a sleepover Friday.  And I don't like sleepover Fridays.

Because?  There is no one to come bounding in the door at 4 pm, yelling "Hi Mamma!" and immediately launching into a breathless recitation of her school day.

No 4 o'clock hug. No 4 o'clock kiss.

Nope.  She is walking home from school with a friend for the friend's birthday slumber party.

And as excited as I am for her and happy she is going to a cool party, I feel all whiney because I [me!me!me!] have absolutely nothing to look forward to now.

Pathetic, aren't I?
[Vagabraun you hush up. Or I WILL call you. Again. giggle]

Pooldad has late shift so I will more likely than not be in bed by the time he gets home, so I don't even have that.

I sometimes wonder what the heck am I going to do in 4 years when Wallene leaves for college?
Why do they have to grow up?
Yes. That is Wallene at  8 months
Pooldad had better hurry up and retire. I don't think I am going to do so well with this whole "empty nest" thing.

Have a good one Tadpoles. See you on the flipside! :)

Oh poor little Skippy. Wish I could pop across and see you. Then I could call out "Hi! It's thisisme from across the pond, and you'd better be decent!" That's rubbing salt into it that Pooldad is going to be late home as well. It's funny sometimes being a mum. On the one hand, we're really pleased that they're confident enough to do things on their own, but on the other hand, we don't want to lose them.! Is that super cute little girl in the picture Wallene when she was a little girl?! Sending big hugs your way my friend.

That dreaded time will come and when it does you will handle it well. I have seen quite a few have to do the same thing thinking that they couldn't. As the song says "God will made a way where there seems to be no way".

Bless your heart! Why don't you make this a spoil yourself night? Personally, I love my alone time, but then I guess that's why I've been single so long now.

Bummer. I bet she'll call though.

Poor you. You should learn to be anti-social like me! Should have asked her for a phone call when she had a moment (I'll bet she'll call anyway). Not quite the same thing, I know.

You are such a good caring, loving mother. Your best part of the day is the one I dread...not because I don't love my kids, but once they enter the house and start with their, "What's for supper? Are we going out for supper? I want to eat out? I need a new calculator? I have track tomorrow and my shoes don't fit..."

Me again Skippy. I can't believe that Wallene was only 8 months old in that photo. Look at all that hair!!! Little Ruby is 17 months and still not got very much! :(

How cute is she in that photo!!! I know exactly what you mean. I feel totally at a loss when Holly has stuff on after school. Then when she finally arrives she's too tired to chat....grrr!

There is only so much chatting I can do to a child who doesn't speak and two dogs who look at me as if I have gone nuts! I am dreading when she goes away to college. I will be like Shirley Valentine, talking to the walls, lol.

Having an empty nest isn't so bad. Now, we have a couple of adorable cats to spoil, and can do things we want to do, when we want to do them, rather than making everything about the kids and their needs. Plus, now we get to spoil the grandkids rotten ... and then send them home with their parents.

They grow up unfortunately and we are proud of thier independence.
She will be on holidays soon so you get to spend lots and lots of time with her.
It isnt that you wont have a Bst part of the day" it just will be postponed a few hours
Love you and sending you hugs

Hey Skippy this is not a problem I have I can't get rid of
Yeah I love them and love having them around but I want some me time without having to take care of a 3yr old. As much as I love hubby I love the times when he is home late and I can watch what I want without him complain or having to listen to his snorring...........

They do grow up so fast don't they have to say she was a beautiful baby.

Wow, what a little cutie-pie! I love her little outfit! Aweeeee....
I'm melting over here.

I'm sorry you didn't get to have your favorite part of the day today. I know how I always look forward to seeing my hubby at the end of his workday and when my little guy goes to school I'm sure gonna miss him. What an emotional tragedy that will be for me! Whaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh....I'm going to need serious help getting through that one. I can sure understand why seeing your baby at the end of her school day is so special to you. They sure do grow up too fast! :(

(I tried to make this upbeat but I made a wrong turn somewhere down Nostalgic-I-Miss-My-Little-Baby lane. Sorry! Hugs ;)

maybe you need to have a sleepover sometime. get all your girlfriends to come over (fly down, drive up, etc) and have a good ole time.

yeah, that sounds like fun.

I can't believe the hair on her at 8 months old!!!! What a cutie.

There was a moment of panic in my chest when I read the post. Every once and a while it happens when i remember that they do grow up. I want to keep them small forever.
