Six Hours, A Cat Scan and Two Percocet Later...

....and we are home.

This time it wasn't me.

Nope - we didn't even make it a week into 2011.  And I thought this year had promise.

Ha.

Pooldad is fine, but he nearly collapsed from pain this evening while I was making dinner.  I have never, ever seen my husband in this kind of pain.  I have a good "sick" husband.  If something is bothering him or he doesn't feel good he just goes to bed and doesn't get up until it passes.  He doesn't whine or act needy.  This time it didn't work.  He had gone to lay down this evening but by 9 pm it wasn't working and he came downstairs in a state of pain I have never seen before.  I told him I would drive him to the hospital. In fact, I insisted, the kids insisted, but he asked for the ambulance instead.

Okayyyy.  Now we were all scared.

The EMTs took him to the hospital at 9 pm and I was to follow in the van.  No such luck as he had inadvertently taken the keys. So 9 [NINE] phone calls later I finally found a cab company and arrived around 10:30.  [Yes, even we I can complicate a trip to the hospital.]

Tadpoles you thought I was fun on dilaudid - well...my husband is a lot more fun than I ever was.  Honestly, I was just so happy and relieved to see that he was not in pain anymore.

The ER took really good care of him and diagnosed kidney stones [&%$@#$ ouch!] and he was discharged at 2 am.  He is home, safe and sound - asleep and hopefully pain free for the time being until something passes.

I am only writing this because I honestly don't know what else to do.  I am so scared about losing him.  He is my whole world.  I can't sleep for worrying about him.  I know he is going to be fine, but....

On a lighter note he did say, as we were leaving the hospital, "Well, at least now you have something to blog about Skip."

I don't need this kind of blog fodder Dude.  I think everyone can live with tuna casserole recipes and pictures of the kids.

Don't scare me again.  I need you.

Believe it or not, I know exactly how you felt.
Nearly 10 years ago my hubby rolled out of bed at 5.30 am in a full epileptic fit. First one and no warning, just bang on the floor fitting. I honestly thought that I was going to be a widow and it was the scariest thing ever. We can laugh now. Not then tho

I am soooooo glad he is doing better with the pain at least. Sure he has to eventually pass the stones or have them crushed with that procedure they do. I have never had one and I will be 64 in march so I feel blessed for sure. Hope this is all over very soon.

Skippy - such a worry for you. I'm so pleased that he is out of pain for the time being. Please give him our warmest wishes and say that we are thinking of him. I can really relate to that pain, because my dad had them, and I saw him rolling the floor in agony. Then, earlier last year, my son-in-law had the same thing and was put on morphine. Thankfully, he seems okay now. But he did say that the pain was worse than child-birth (my son-in-law, that is). Of course, we all kidded him about that, but the pain must be terrible. Thinking of you and your little family! (((Hugs)))

Oh dear. I hope he's feeling better soon. Fingers crossed the stone passes without a problem.

Jeez Skippy. Tell him if he wanted some attention all he had to do is ask. Seriously, I totally forgot Rich had one of those attacks as well during the years of health issues. It was scary, because it comes on pretty damn fast. Thank goodness he's home and comfortable. Dilaudid is a great friend. Will be in touch with you! Love to him and HUGS to you!

Denny and I were driving from Ohio (where my mother had just had emergency gall bladder surgery) to Florida where we were camping when Denny went gray and started sweating and complained of horrible pain. Which is how we ended up in an emergency room in Bowling Green, Kentucky where he was eventually diagnosed with kidney stones. (Thank gawd for those little blue hospital signs along the roadway because I had no clue where a hospital was and this was YEARS before the 'net and smart phones). And then we went through it again when the stone finally passed. Scary stuff and very, very painful. So I know. It WILL be okay. Promise.

word vert:swimonse. I wanted to go swimonse at Panama City Beach but it was too friggin' cold.

I have been avoiding the post on what if I lose my husband or the I am terrified I will lose him post. I ought to write it as I think it would be cathartic. I am glad you wrote out about your fears, many of us share them.

Tell pooldad his kidney stones are in my thought, shootin' m down like an asteroid game.

hugs to you both!

my word is unkinch, something pooldad should be doing to let those pass :D

Oh no!!!! I am glad he is feeling better! We had the same situation about 4 yrs. ago with hubby- it WAS frightening! Hubby like Mynx's hubby was on the floor writhing anf flopping around like a fish...then we go to the ER and they determined what it was- gave him meds intraveniously and said he will begin to feel better in about 3-5 min... waiting.... nothing... so I am up their butts and they whip in change the meds and put something else in the iv and in a matter of less than 30 sec. he felt perfectly fine....I don't know what they gave him but it was GOOOOOOD stuff :)

How scary!!!! Expecially when he said to call an EMT!!

I am so glad he is feeling better and at home. I hope they pass quickly and that he is back to normal soon.

(And the part about him taking the keys with him - something that would totally happen around here!)

So sorry to hear this! Keep the keys close by! I know the fear you are talking about. I had to do CPR on my husband in our car in a WalMart parking lot while I waited for an ambulance. When I got to the hospital after they had relieved me of that awful responsibility I could not get enough to drink. I guess the adrenaline rush had sucked all the fluids out of me and I was sucking the water fountain dry while waiting to see him. He was okay after two stents, but, I don't ever want to do that again!!

I'm so glad it was just kidney stones. I know what you mean having just watched my sister lose her husband and how fast it can happen.

so sorry you had to go through that but i can totally tell you i know how you felt. seeing your husband get carted off in an ambulance when you know something is wrong, but not what, is a scary place to be.

give him a hug and tell him to rest up for his big delivery.

Men are so funny - at least you have something to blog about. I bet you were scared. I hear kidney stones are really painful. Glad he's feeling better. Does this mean more tests and procedures now or will it pass on its own (fingers crossed)?

He'll be fine. I just hope he'll stay comfortable. But I do know the being sick with worry and it isn't fun, especially when you know things are going to be okay.

Oh Dear! Poor Pooldad!!! i hope the stone passes OK. My Dad had trouble with kidney stones about 10 yrs ago. He had the ultrasonic crushing procedure done, which blasted them to pieces small enough to pass. (Very bad pain, though. And my Dad gets hysterical with pain.) It will turn out fine, I'm sure. xxooo

Yikes! I was told by my rock of a dad that kidney stones was the worse pain he'd ever had...but he'd had them YEARS ago, and he's fine. I know Pooldad will be fine too!

Hugs for you and for him!

Gah! Kidney stones are the worst. I'm surprised they sent him home. When I had mine, they kept me in the hospital for three days on morphine and then finally zapped them out. That is pain like nothing else, truly. SO glad it all is over. Poor Pool Dad!
