I Am a Bad Momma

I was having a "Happy New Year" type conversation this morning with one of my lovely Tadpoles.

While we were chatting about random stuff Wallene meandered downstairs and plopped herself down on the love seat.  I handed her the remote to the TV while I continued the conversation on the phone with my buddy.

I wasn't paying attention.
Obviously.
However - my [ears of a bat!] Tadpole stopped the conversation and exclaimed, "What in the world is Wallene watching Skippy?  I just heard f*ck you and f*ck that from your television."

Dang.

Let's check that out.

Surprised that I was completely clueless [while sitting within inches of my daughter] I asked Wallene what she was watching.  After a minute [or two] of discussion we figured she had found an R rated movie [big NO NO at 13 yo.!] and I made her change it.  Immediately. [I get good Momma points for that. :) Sort of. Okay not really, but....]

My friend and I resumed our conversation and were chatting, happily, when I looked back at the TV.

And saw she had turned on ....

JAWS.

[Need I point out that it was a  "JAWS" marathon today? Sigh.]

Should I be happy that my cable is re-connected?

I think we need a bigger boat Tadpoles. ;D

LOL times like those happen quite often. Thankfully I'm a big girl now so I can watch that stuff if I want to. Keyword, if.

Lot of crappy stuff on tv. I get worried that my 2-1/2 yo granddaughter hears more than she should. Little Pitchers have Big Ears.

Thank you for the love on my blog. I need all the love I can get ;-) Much appreciated.

I will have moments when I am absorbed doing something and the youngest will come ask me something (so he says) and a bit later I will say "Why are you...." and he comes back saying "You said I could" I have no recollection of anything more than an annoying buzz in my ear at some point. The kid has it figured when to catch Mum at her most distacted.

LOL! I can so relate to this, because of my 13 year old granddaughter. Her mum and dad are very careful about what she watches. I can remember when my youngest was 13, and she wasn't allowed to watch certain videos. Anyway, one day she went to a friend's birthday party (at 13) and the video they were showing was Nightmare on Elm Street!! I was NOT amused, I can tell you, AND she had nightmares for a week, so at least I was able to smugly say that Mum was right about these things!!!

I guess I never paid much attention to that movie to remember the bad language. You're a good mom though or you wouldn't have cared after you found out what she was watching.

ROFL too funny Skippy, but I totally understand where you are coming from. Some movies I can't even watch due to the constant use of the F word. I find it totally disgusting. If they only realized that they could leave the word out and it would probably make the story line more interesting. When we babysat on Mew Year's eve the granddaughter was watching cartoons and her favorite is Pink Panther. I hadn't watched that show in years and didn't realize just how violent it is....yuck. I am sure that Wallene does not think you are a bad momma, I know I don't. Luvs ya!!!

Skippy...you are about as bad a momma as June Cleaver. She hears much worse at school if there are boys anywhere nearby. And girls too! I read the Godfather when I was in the 8th grade and some of my teachers thought it a bit too mature for me. Ha, they never lived a day in the Brannon household with a good old fashioned mom and dad fight going on!!!

oh well, if you are going to let her watch TV at all you might as well just give it up. the oversight I mean.

We have Dish Network & too high a percentage of whats available is really not worth watching, especially for families with children.

i hear ya! one of ron's favorite shows is "family guy" and i HATE it. he was watching it when isaiah was here one day and i told him that he had to change it. he said isaiah wasn't paying attention to what he was watching. i said you never know... turns out i was right. isaiah told amy that "crampa was watching family guy" but he didn't watch it. then he proceeded to quote something from it. needless to say, crampa doesn't watch family guy any more if anyone is here.

last night, the boys had a movie on that was just f-bomb after f-bomb. after about 10 minutes of it, keith said i can't take this language any longer; ron and i agreed so we changed it.

Jaws is kind of a joke now isn't it? But I remember seeing it back in the day - it was summer and living at the lake and we were all a little freaked out about going in the water for a while although we did because it was very hot.

Junior high is the years that I learned to swear...and it wasn't from movies!

You're not a bad momma you're just trying to keep her in the bubble. It's expected!
