You're Kidding, Right?

Health Insurance review time at Pooldad's work.

They offered us the deal of 37% of Pooldad's take home pay per month for 4 people.

THIRTY SEVEN PERCENT.

Allow me to let you in on a little secret - I didn't post Pooldad's salary or the cost of the insurance for a reason - but the tidbit? He makes a nice salary - he has been doing this job for over 30 years - so imagine what 37% is.

To cover just us [Pooldad and I] is half of that - so they want almost 20 percent?

WHAT is going on? This is ridiculous.

Oh, and his bosses told him they were covering part of the cost! Yah, right.

That is so pathetic. Insurance has gotten so out of line - but even with that said, I am not a fan of the proposed health care bill. I know I'll probably get some flack on that one but if it's not good enough for the members of Congress to have it for themselves, then there must be a reason it shouldn't be forced upon the rest of us. If it's so good, then they should be jumping through hoops to get it, too.

We're very fortunate that hubby's retiree insurance is very reasonable. Every time there is a contract change, though things could change so I go with the flow. If I had to take insurance out where I work on the two of us, it would be significantly higher and the coverage is not as good.

Thanks for stopping by last night. Did you get my email?

I feel your pain; Denny's insurance is about 1/4 his pension and that's with Medicare and his pension fund paying some (yeah right). We're hoping that when it's time for my pension to kick in in a couple of years that having individual coverage will bring the cost down. But we're not holding our breath on that one.

Word Verification: hargyn. Hargyn back to those thrilling days of yesteryear...

I hear ya. and they think mandatory insurance is the answer to our health woes. I am so not in favor of this although I do support health care reform.

I don't mind paying the premiums so much, but every year the benefits become less, while the premiums increase. The rules change and I swear they try to make it as confusing as possible in hopes that you just pay the bill and let it go at that; never trying to recoup the out of pocket money that is supposed to be covered.

Isn't it ridiculous?? We are insurance poor over here, too.

That's an incredible amount of income going toward health insurance. How disheartening.

Insurance in general is so wrong. And then we all wonder why we can't get ahead in life?...hmmm?

That is so wrong. Your housing costs should only be 30% - at the most. Why should you be paying more for your insurance than your housing.
We just signed up for a private health insurance because Steve's insurance through his work was really high, too. It is so stupid that private insurance is cheaper than employee benefits - and our private is better than the HMO they wanted to put us on.

That is ludicrous!

With more and more people becoming unemployed, this will increase even more. Not enough people paying into it. We haven't had health insurance for a few years now. We pay cash, and see a doctor that doesn't take any kind of insurance. We put money away in case we have to go to the hospital. We you pay cash, you get discounts. Plus hospitals actually work with you if you are willing to talk to them. Not having the insurance doesn't work for everyone, but we are doing just fine with it.

My mother is losing hers soon, and walgreens is no longer accepting new medicade or care participants (if that tells you anything)

Im Australian and we get all our health care for free, and its excellent. We only use private health insurance for non-urgent things (e.g., hip replacement, braces on kids teeth). Your unfair health care system is a major reason why I could NEVER live in America. I think Pres. Obama is moving in the right direction, for sure!!!! Skippy, the cost of your insurance takes my breath away :-O
