Wow. Just Wow.

You don't think of the east coast of the US as a place that experiences wild fires. That is a west coast thing, rigtht? Well...imagine my surprise when I woke this morning to the news that Myrtle Beach, SC is on fire; 5,000 acres in North Myrtle Beach with no end in sight.

I am sitting here shaking. And crying. Because, well...My Mom, my sister and my brother all live in North Myrtle Beach, SC. They have already evacuated 2,500 residents, but not in my Mom's area yet. She is a concern because she is on oxygen and is pretty much homebound.

They said the only way to stop this from spreading is 1. The Inner coastal waterway acting as a firebreak and 2. Heavy rains - which aren't in the forecast until next week.

I am trying not to let the kidlets see me cry because I don't want them to worry all day in school, but I have to say:

This sucks.

We've been watching the news on this all morning. My mom is heading that way on vacation in a few weeks and we are worried as well. But for totally different reasons.

Hope your family is OK.... hugs...

I love Myrtle Beach and hate to hear of this news and your family there. Hope it goes away and you get some rain there sooner than expected.

I just swore off the news, but I'll have to turn it back on now. Did you call to get your mom evacuated to a safe haven? Maybe you can call the area fire dept to let them know where she is and that she is O2 dependent so they can get her out of there. Even if the fires aren't encroaching, she probably shouldn't be exposed to the fire residues.

You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Everytime I think of Myrtle Beach I think of The movie "October Sky". Yeah, the news this morning isn't too good either. Best hopes to ya.

Oh darlin', I just got back online to see this. Hope all is well with your brother, sister and mom. I heard last night the whole thing was caused by someone burning trash/debris in their backyard. Which is probably why it's banned in my hometown.
