Well tough noogies, because if you want a post out of me, it is going to be about the weather.
And Tadpoles? Raise your hand if you're cold. One...Two...Three....One Hundred and Fifty nine....Okay - that pretty much covers the whole of the United States and Canada. And my beloved Canadian Tadpoles? No playing the hero card. If you got slapped with whatever front came through here then you are cold too. Admit it. You're hardy, we know, we get it - but THIS is COLD. I don't care where you live. But I still love you. heehee
This is insufferable. No, actually it's kind of cruel. To go from 50 degrees and a jacket over a sweater on Sunday to a "I can't see the freezing mark from here" and telling your husband "I don't care how long you pre heat that car I don't need [insert some life giving item here] that bad" kind of Tuesday. Yeesh. Cold.
And if you have visited with me for any amount of time you know how I feel about cold. I don't mind it - but dangit it had better snow if I have to freeze my beehoohoo off with it. I want payoff for having to dress in 8 layers, okay? [Side note: My old clothes fit for the first time in over 10 months. Of course they fit, I am wearing all those layers under them.::wink::] I want a redo, or at least a refund on this winter because as of January 22 we haven't had one flake of snow. Not one. And I am starting to grumble a little bit.
There aren't many things I like about living in Virginia, but if I had to pick the one thing that heads the list of why I do like living here it is changing of the seasons. The greening of spring, the flowers blooming and the birds returning from their vacation down south. Everything coming back to life. Then there is the warmth of summer. The heat and humidity, which I enjoy - hey, we have air conditioning everywhere, it isn't like anyone really suffers anymore [unless they work outside, they get a pass]. I love the pool and the beach and our garden producing the summer's finest. And the fall. Wow, the autumn here is great. All the trees changing colors, the brisk air, school starting back up and Friday football games in full swing. I love them all and I like that Virginia does them just right.
But winter? Not a fan of cold, in fact, I have never been a fan of cold. I have been fighting my whole adult life with a body that has a hard time staying warm and the winter is sometimes hard to take. But, BUT - winter is completely doable if we get snow. It is worth spending hours in my space heater-heated bathroom and looking like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man in all these layers if it snows. And not an inch or two dusting. I want a full on, close the schools, Pooldad is off from work, flights are cancelled and the shelves are bare of milk, bread and snow shovels kind of snow!
So when our thermometer reads in the single digits without windchill and it is still dropping there had best be precipitation in my forecast. Okay, winter? Yooohooo! I want snow or warm it up already buddy, okay?
Because the only thing more
Stay warm Tadpoles. We'll see ya' on the other side of the cocoa mug. ::grin::
Edited to add at 2:15 am - Okay, now I am just ticked off. One of the hardest things to do in a cold home is homemade bread. It is a good trick to get the dough to raise not once, but twice. Tonight it took me 7 hours to do what usually takes me 3 hours, at best. That wouldn't be so bad, except I was ready to go to bed 4 hours ago, but had to wait to cook these bad boys. I put them in, forgot to set the timer and sat down to write this post.
::hanging my head in failure::
Well, what do you think happened? I burned them. Sigh. Oh, well. I am off to bed now. Roll-less and cold. ::sniff, sniff:: G'night.

So the second rising takes longer? That must be what I always do wrong.
As for the weather -yes it is cold and I am not good with it or tough. I handle it about as well as you do. I have discovered after 50 years that dressing properly really does help. I finally have a warm enough coat, boots, gloves and new this year -my trapper hat and dickie. Also I this being a little menopausal has raised my personal thermostat a bit.
It is -26C here which means it is -14 your temperature. Reminds me of the cold winters growing up in Montreal which this morning had a wind chill of -37C. Armstrong Ontario was -45C yesterday. That is -49F. Only this place in Siberia was colder yesterday! I remember growing up in Montreal it went two months before we went up above freezing. It was normal. lol
It's been very spring like here since last Friday. The birds are starting to think its spring and the weather prognosticators are saying we've already had our cold weather. I'm no fan of winter but sheesh, it's still January!
56 degrees here today. But a cold front will come through tonight and tomorrow is only going to be 36. I missed the little snow we got at Christmas since we were out of town. I don't see any precipitation coming anytime soon. You would hate it here. :)
All I can say is, here you're preaching to the choir...
Well, I can't say it's really cold here, but FOR HERE, it's cold enough. It's all relative you know. But I'll raise a glass of hot cocoa to you and hope you get some of the fun & pretty white stuff soon.....'cause I sure don't want it! :)
Oh my goodness skippy, it is SO cold over here and I don't like it one little bit. I just wasn't made for cold weather that's for sure. I have no fat to keep me warm!! Take care and crank up that central heating. Brrrrr!! Warm hugs coming your way.
It was 9 degrees here at the bus stop this morning. NINE. Youngest and I are saving our run for 3pm... when it might reach 14. And that's without wind chill.
Yup. Cold. Sucks.
That is all.
And Steven, I don't know where you are, but I don't think I ever want to visit. Sorry. That's just crazy.
The only time my feet are warm is in the shower or in the bed! We have the crazy wind here, too, and it will blow you down. Makes it feel so much colder! I am getting a bad case of cabin fever.
Sounds like it is cold over there. I don't mind the winter if it stays cold, here we get rain a lot and it can change from being +10C degrees and then the next couple of days it can be -1C degrees, and the winds...brrrrr. not a fan of them. Not nice being cold. I am really looking forward to spring time.
Stay warm my friend and have a good week.
Yes. I'm back. I want you to know that when we went for our run, there was a -1 degree wind chill. Yip. Cold. Sucks.
Carry on.
Funny thing you should talk about the weather today. I've been having a discussion with myself about whether or not I could be one of those retirees that heads south to more tropical climates for the winter. I always told myself that Florida will someday just sink down under the water due to the weight of all those old people heading there in winters, but now I'm reconsidering. I think I could actually see myself as a snowbird. Maybe not to Florida, too many snakes there, but certainly to somewhere else WARM. Probably my husband and I need to retire first though. Or at least take a yearly middle-of-the-winter little vacation to somewhere hot and sunny to hold us over.
We haven't had much in the way of cold weather down here, but there's a chance of a cold front coming through in the next couple of days. Might even see a snowflake or piece of sleet. Guess that means the whole area will shut down. Atlanta doesn't do winter very well. 12:34
First, thank you for your comment on my blog..feels good to be considered a tadpole :-)
2nd...it's COLD here and we have snow (sorry to rub it in)
and yesterday as i was contemplating baking some bread I too was wondering how i was going to get it to rise in this cold weather....well...i put it on the tv stand right in front of the tv. we have an older flat screen that puts off a lot of heat, only took about 10 mins more to rise :-)
what i do for fresh bread LOL
