If We Can Do It Anyone Can!

Pooldad and I aren't gardeners. Heck - we can't keep houseplants alive why we thought we could grow vegetables on the back porch of our townhome is beyond me, but. . . we did.

And it is actually working out pretty darn well for two newbies.
We have two tomato plants. One is normal size and the other is specifically made for patio growing.  This one is the normal size and so far we have 12 tomatoes growing on it.  There are close to 20 on the patio plant.
This is our yellow squash plant.  These flower appeared two days ago. Soon they will drop off and little squashes [squashii?] will replace them. Exciting!  ETA:  The wonderful Ellen corrected me. These are the boy flowers. They come first....well, read the comments - she explains it best. Thanks Ellen!
This is our Anaheim pepper plant.  If you look closely you will see a 1" pepper that was NOT there yesterday.  How cool is that?
This is most of our garden. The tomato plants are in the back.  A green pepper plant, the squash plant and a watermelon plant [which is soon to be replanted in the yard because it is crazy big] are in the front.
There you go.  No excuses, because if we can do it then anyone can do it! No matter your skill level, black thumbness or yard space. A couple of buckets, some good soil and seedlings and you too can have a nice little garden.

Hope y'all are having a great week.  Thanks for the great comments and emails. I think of y'all often and read when I can. Take care and we'll see ya' on the flipside Tadpoles.

I'm jealous that you have so many things on your plants already! I just planted my garden a couple weeks ago, so I don't have anything yet. My sugar snap peas are just starting to come up. I like to grow tomatoes, peppers and onions (for making salsa), radishes, cucumbers and then we can usually fit maybe one other thing in. Last year we planted a zucchini plant but never got anything. We are trying again this year :)

great looking garden! I'm going to put in a few things in a pot I got from my mom. It's big enough to do several herbs in it. I'm not sure what else I want to do. This weekend I hope to get some stuff.

Well look at you! I've never had much luck with vegetables. I figure that's why God made grocery stores. And markets.

Congrats. I had a topsy turvy tomato plant a couple of years ago and watered it too much and killed the tomatoes. I said never again.

Gosh, haven't you and Pooldad done well with those plants. Your tomatoes are well on, my friend. You are quite right, it just goes to show how little space you need to grow vegetables (or flowers for that matter). Thinking of you, as always. Lots of love from your friend across the pond. Take care x

Your garden greatly outshines my "conventional, sweat-inducing, constant weed pulling" garden right now! Bet ya can't wait for that sandwich with the first fresh, ripe, right from your patio tomato! :)

Nice looking garden- I have gardened for years... I especially love flower gardens.... the past few years I have had a veggie garden again and there is NOTHING better than fresh veggies you've grown yourself... I can hardly wait for my tomatoes to come in!

the squash produces two types of flowers. the boy flowers which are just on long stems and they always appear first, and the girl, or fruiting, flowers. these flowers are on the end of a baby squash and once the flower blooms it will only be a few days before the fruit is big enough to pluck.

my tomatoes started ripening last week. we've gotten nearly 30 beautiful tomatoes already and the plants are still covered.

Great job on your plants. I have a black thumb.

I don't do tomatoes since I am the only one who eats them. But we do plant cukes, peas, and sunflowers every year. This year the peas are doing great, the cukes... not so much.
