I Made A Cake [Sort of]

Amazed aren't you?

Yeah, me too.

But, really, I made a cake.

Turns out it was a not-so-successful endeavor.

I am just imagining your surprise at that.

It was supposed to be an awesome applesauce nut bundt cake for my beloved Mom in law.

But, as usual, in all things Skippy we had a sticky little problem.
["Sticky" being the operative word in this post.]

For those not in the know the cake I made was supposed to look like this:

See the nice rounded top with the perfect indentations?

Well....I flipped the sucker out of the pan and donchta' know the entire top stayed IN the pan.  It stuck. Hard.

Yep.

That cake was pretty much flat planed on top when I got it on the plate.

Sigh.

I thought of my options and realizing I had...none...I handed the thing to Pooldad and said:

"Here. Wish our Mommas a happy birthday.  And throw some powder sugar on this train wreck while you're at it."

[God Bless my husband.]

He arrived at his Mother's house and upon presenting the cake he said:

"Happy Birthday Mom.  Skippy baked you a DECAPA-CAKE"

No wonder why I love the man.

giggle

[Turns out the thing was super tasty.
I should know.
I ate the remnants out of the bottom of the bundt pan.]

Enjoy your Tuesday!

LOL What a man! I've had the same thing happen to me. (more than once) The last time was Valentine's Day. It was supposed to be a heart shaped white cake with chocolate icing and strawberries to decorate...I ended up crumbling it up in bigish pieces layered in the bowl with the chocolate, whipped cream and strawberries
(Never let 'em see ya sweat! )

lol at least it turned out yummy. Most people would have just bought a cake so major effort on your part :)

Brilliant! That Pooldad is a treasure, isn't he?! I'm sure his mum was just so pleased that you had made the cake especially for her. I admire you dear Skippy for even attempting to bake a cake. LOL! Cooking is not one of my blessings, I'm afraid. Oh I can cook, but I just think there are more important things to do!! Hee Hee!

Pooldad is so awesome! There aren't many like him around.

I've had a few baking mishaps myself. Of course, I blame them on the humidity or altitude or something like that! As long as it tastes good, that's all that matters :)

I did that once when my mom bought one of them thar newfangled silicon bundt pans. What a disaster! We tried that danged thing twice and then it went into the trash.

Oh - I have most certainly made a decapa-cake! Damn bundt pans.

I'm with RV. I bought one of those silicon bundt pans never again.

Want to know the trick to it Skippy? Right before your cake is done soak a kitchen towel with hot tap water. Place your pan on towel for 10-15 seconds. Invert onto a wire rack it should slide right out. Better yet, hang the sucker upside down and allow it to cool. Should slide right out.

Hi Skippy!
Diane sent me over :) Congratulations on your new award.

Your heart was in the right place with the cake baking attempt, that's why, even though it might not have looked like a prize-winning cake, it tasted so jolly good. When the secret ingredient is love, you can never have a flop :)

cake sounds nummy! At least is wasn't the pumpkin waffle incident that I had with my bestie. Lets just say two girls that didn't know how long to keep the iron folded created an even stickier mess.
