We went to:
- The Dollar Tree
- Payless Shoe store
- The Diner for lunch
- JCPenny's
- The consignment shop
- Drove Squirrel back to college
- Bob Evan's restaurant
- Barnes and Noble
- WalMart
- Countless 7-11s [gotta' get my Slurpee fix!]
Winter? Winter who?
Things I learned:
- Slurpees have restorative powers. I swear.
- The Dollar Tree sells real greeting cards for .50 cents each. I love sending cards, but I hate paying $4-$6 per to do it.
- The "new" JCPenny's lives up to hype. Things are cheaper, everything is priced to the dollar [$15 as opposed to $14.99] and their selection is great. We bought a lot for the kids and saved a lot too. I could have spent all day in their accessories department with the jewelry, hats, scarves and belts. So pretty. I wanted it all.
- I bought 3 books at B&N, all classics. Upton Sinclair's The Jungle, Thoreau's Walden with Civil Disobedience" thrown in and Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin. What is so great is all three only cost $16. I know everyone loves their Nooks and Kindles, and Pooldad has offered several times to buy me one, but I just prefer the printed word on paper. I may change my mind one day, but for those prices I'll keep buying the books.
- The Dollar Tree sells obscure hardcover books for $1. I bought The Great Swim - the story of the first women to swim the English Channel. It is a great read and I am already half way through it because it is so hard to put down.
- The following restaurant foods are very low in sodium and make me so happy because now I can eat tasty when we go out - Bob Evan's beef soup and strawberry smoothie are both so delicious - but I have to avoid their luscious rolls. Those are addictive, but one has 260 mg. [I only had a half :)] Plus Domino's/Pizza Huts "Thin & Crispy" pizzas. This has always been my favorite pizza and when I checked the sodium I was surprised just how low it is for how much I eat of it. With my favorite mushrooms on top I am in heaven. Pizza night is back in rotation. Yippee.
I slept 8 hours last night and then another 6 today. It was so worth it to be out and about with them and not sitting at home, waiting to see what they bought or to hear about their shopping. I know the girls liked it too. Pooldad especially liked it because as he says now he isn't outnumbered. Two vetos are better than one. heehee
There were a few minor hiccups, as to be expected, but we made the best of them. The funniest one happened when we were eating at the Diner. About halfway through our meal I felt myself begin to get nauseous from my meds and excused myself. I tried to make it to the bathroom but knew I wouldn't so I ran outside and around the back of the building where the garbage cans and such are stored. This part of the restaurant faces a busy 6 lane parkway lined with sidewalks [i.e. lots of people] As I stood, bent over, hands on my knees, heaving for all it was worth Pooldad came out to check on me. When I was [ahem] finished I stood up, wiped my mouth and while pointing at the busy roadway I said to Pooldad "Well, I don't think I am exactly the best advertisement for this place, do you?" He smiled and I could tell he wanted to laugh but he didn't. He did say "If I didn't feel so bad for you Skip that would be really funny." And it was.
Gotta' keep your sense of humor. :D
I hope y'all have a great week too and are enjoying the beautiful weather we are having here. Take care and we'll see ya' on the flipside!

I got a gift card from JCPenny's for my birthday. I hadn't been there in years. I found the new pricing quite nice. I found a sweater for $9, and brazier for $14 (pretty good price for boulder sizes).
Yeah, I think I would have hesitated to eat at that restaurant if I would have seen you spewing by the trash cans. I hope you feel better though.
We don't have any here, but I've seen the ads for JC Penny and kinda wish we did.
Wonderful that you are getting out. Throwing up in public is so much fun isn't it? I've done it a couple times this winter.
Today promises to be a nice one - maybe not 70 but I'll take anything this far above freezing.
Sorry, I laughed at your joke about advertising. That sudden knowledge that all is about to come up is not a good feeling and I feel for you. My new meds are having the same effect on me. Just the nausea, but it lasts for hours sometimes.
Glad you are enjoying the nice weather and have found some "goodies" that you can have!
Glad you had such a lovely time with the family at the weekend. I bet you are missing that Squirrel already!! Good that you got some bargains too. Lovely that the weather was so great, and you were able to be in your capri pants. I did smile at the comment you made to Pooldad outside the restaurant. I can imagine what the passers by must have been thinking! Hee Hee!
Take it easy my friend x
I'm glad you were able to get out and spend time with the girls and Pooldad. I was overcome by nausea once (on birth control pills) standing in line at a deli to pay for my lunch on my lunch break and it happened so fast I couldn't even get outside. Pretty humiliating, throwing up in the store like that so I'm glad you managed to get outside.
It sounds like a perfect weekend, except, ya know, for the free advertising you did outside for that restaurant. And I totally agree with you; you've GOTTA keep your sense of humor. Everything goes down (and comes up!) better with a little levity.
I can't imagine getting through all the little things in life without humor, much less life's bigger issues.
I still haven't been to Penney's since their change but am glad to hear it is a good change. So many "new and improved" ideas are just the opposite.
Glad you were able to get out. I agree about penny's. Love the new prices and their clearance racks are cheap.
Slurpees may help you gain some weight back.
This week was gorgeous! Seriously, I can't wait to get outside. The flowers are even starting to come up!
You're supposed to keep the food down if you wanna gain weight, girl! DOn't go givin' it back like that!
Sounds like you had a great weekend. I'm glad for all of you.
JCPenny! My grandmom used to shop for me there back when they still had catalogs. Always looked forward to marking the things I wanted (but only ever got half of it). I'm still a JCP customer. Love their new pricing, too. Ahhh, JCPenny. You should see my closet.
It sounds like you definitely had an awesome weekend! Slurpees can make you feel better when nothing else can.
I've been meaning to go check out Penney's since they made the change, but I just haven't gotten to it yet.
