The Cereal Fairy Came to Visit

And she sent Wallene three [3!] boxes of Alpha Bits today.

The lovely Miss Josie over at Yum Yucky [go visit, get healthy. . .you'll be glad you did] was blogging about healthy cereals.  She was reminiscing about the childhood goodness of Alpha Bits, which I remember too, and she mentioned that they aren't available everywhere.  She said a good substitute would be the Quaker Hearts Cereal.

We bought the Quaker cereal and yes, it is delicious, but it isn't Alpha Bits.  Lovely little hearts to eat but you can't spell anything with them before eating them like you can with Alpha Bits.  Y'know, things like "Mitt Romney is a tool" or "I love Andy Gibb".
Or this:

We can't thank you enough Josie.  You are too much and we love ya' for it!

I always hated alpha bits. Along with most cereals. For some reason, my brother and I loved Cap'n Crunch although my mother would buy it maybe once a year if we were lucky. We'd eat the entire box in one sitting for fear the other would get the most. My regular cereal was Cheerios. His was Grape Nuts Flakes which probably aren't aren't around any more. But then, I stopped eating breakfast at all when I was 7 or 8.

Educational breakfast cereal, that's a first.

I think that they took all of the sugar out of those since we were kids. If there's something that I need in a breakfast cereal, it's an enormous amount of unhealthy sugar!!!

I love Alphabets! I eat my cereal dry, like babies eat Cheerios. Do you remember Raisin Biscuits? Sunshine cookies made them. They were flat ccokies that came in perforated rows of three. I loved those flat little biscuits full of raisins. They don't make them anymore. I found a recipe for them, but it is just not the same.

I haven't even thought about Alpha Bits in forever! I'll have to check and see if they have it around here.

Betcha buy those little alphabet noodles for your soups, too, huh? Fun post. I never ate alphabits, but I sure did like those raisin biscuits.

Yes. Mitt Romney is a Tool. Spoken from one who lives in the state he has screwed up the most.

And now more important things... like I miss Boo Berry cereal. You can only get it at Halloween and even then it is so hard to find. Not to mention it's not GF. :(

How sweet! This made me so happy to read, I'm all about the nostalgia, especially when it comes to childhood favorites.

I used to like alphabits too, not so much for the taste (I like the taste okay, I didn't LOVE it) but just for the monumental fun factor of being able to open your mouth to people at the table and surprise them with the word on your tongue.

Even if nostalgic child-hood treats don't taste as delicious as I remember them they never cease to excite me.
