Can someone please explain how it is that I laid down, on my couch, for a two hour nap and woke up with a black eye?
Really tadpoles. What is up?
I had no idea it had happened because it doesn't hurt and it isn't swollen - it is just a big ol' bruise-y looking thing under my right eye. I wouldn't have known but the kids pointed it out.
Which leads me to wonder:
Was I a little too enthusiastic taking off my eye make up yesterday?
Did Pooldad sleepwalk and slap me? [think I would've remembered that]
Was Scooby wagging his incredibly strong tail in my face while I slumbered? I have seen him almost knock Spot unconcious with his tail so that is a very strong possibility.
Anyway -Who knows?
[I would share a pic' but my camera is somewhere on I-95 headed towards Rhode Island as I type this.]
I have a dentist appointment tomorrow and Pooldad said "Oh great. Now Dr. Kim is going to think I beat you too."
Tune in tomorrow - I might wake up bald.
Seriously. It could happen. heehee

When Good Chicken Goes Bad
To start off- let me show you our first fail of the day
Scooby likes to lay on the air registers to get the cold air from the A/C.
Unfortunately, when he stood up he took the cover with him. You can see the opening in the background behind his head.
My poor Puppy.
He didn't like that so much.
"Mamas dis coms offs now, rights?"
These are the pieces that didn't make it to the luncheon.
This being my second Fail. heehee
I used another pan today to fry double batches and it didn't work. Hate that pan anyway.
~
You can call it EXTRA crispy. heehee
~
No worries.
That is a lot of chicken salad for us and the dogs love the blackened skin.
Remind Me Again.....
....why I was awake at 5:00 am to make 30 pieces of fried chicken for my husband's office crew?
Oh yeah, thaaaaat!
I love me some Pooldad.
[This had best get him a day off. Soon.**]
**Really - this is why I am doing it. Let's hope this chicken has magical powers. Otherwise I am sending in the Unicorn Dog.

If You Were Away From Home for the First Time
What would you miss the most?
I keep getting promotions for a Care Package company that supplies goodie boxes for college students. They are nice - but terribly generic. I can do better - I think, but everytime I ask Squirrel what she would like in her Care Package she says "Just send love Mom."
Pssshhh. Okay. But how? And what constitutes love to my child? It's not like I can send a pot of Chicken and Dumplings [but if I could - you know I would :)] I would love to ship the dog - but that's not happening.
So far I have come up with the basics - Homemade cookies, spiced nuts, brownies, muffins, pictures, notes from all of us, ummm.....brick wall ahead! And here is where I am stuck. I know I can throw in toothpaste, shampoo, razors, etc. - and I don't want to send money because that is already in her account. [Yes, I know - nothing says "I love you" like a crisp $20 bill. :)]
I used to get the coolest packages from my big sis' my freshman year at college, but times were different then and what my sis' put in isn't what I think Squirrel would want. Still - I felt like the most popular kid in our 12:05 Linguistics class on Wednesdays. Those were some yummy care packages. :)
What did you get in your care packages that said home? What do you send your kids? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
Have a wonderful Tuesday!!

I Feel Like Food
I don't know why - just felt like a food post today. Right now I have a pork shoulder in the crockpot - we are having pulled pork for dinner tonight. Easy-peasy, except now I have to smell it all day. I am also making coleslaw, potato salad and devilled eggs. Yum. I love summer cooking.
Onto the pics' - The first one is of fried chicken. Again. But this is from a series of pics' Wallene and I took for Linda's picture tutorial on making fried chicken. We took 124 from start to finish. heehee. I am going to compile them all into a little booklet with step by step instructions for her. I ordered a set of prints on line at Wal mart because I don't think my lil' printer could handle all of that. I am also creating a tutorial on roasting a chicken, making gravy, chicken salad and stock for Tina M. I need more pics' for that one tho'. Oh well, more good eating for us! YAY
This is the pot roast I made for Pooldad the day he had to guess what's for dinner. I know pot roast doesn't exactly scream "July" but then again neither does Thanksgiving dinner. :) I just cook what we have a craving for.
This is probaby my favorite summer meal. The watermelon, cucumber, tomatoes and the onion in the salads are all from the farmer's market. Yum. The salads are [from the left] chicken, tuna and egg. We make up huge batches of each and then we snack on it through out the week. [The chicken salad was made up of leftover fried chicken.] The watermelon tasted like candy. This pic' is actually of Wallene's plate - I don't eat that much of the salads.

Hey Skippy! This isn't a picture of food - what gives? I know, I know but it cracks me up. My poor doggy. Wallene made him a unicorn. Doesn't he look magical? heehee
Well that's it for today? What's on your menu for dinner tonight? This week? Share your ideas for your favorite summer meals. Please? I need something new in the rotation. Thanks and everyone have the best Monday you can :)
