Feel The 2 AM Love. . .

I couldn't sleep last night and as I laid awake in bed I started to think of what I could make for breakfast. I was thinking that cinnamon rolls sounded good, but once I started researching I discovered I didn't have quite all the ingredients.

Instead, I settled on bagels.  I have never made bagels before but I thought "Meh, if I screw them up no one will know because they will still be in bed." Right? heehee

Lo' and behold - They turned out AMAZING. Darn near the best bagel I have ever had.  The recipe is so easy, but takes a while to make with the raising and boiling..

6:00 AM arrived and I had six lovely bagels for the family. [As of now at 5 PM? There is one left.]

Yummy!  Golden brown and crisp on the outside with a chewy inside. So, so good.
They are tasty toasted or untoasted and make a great sandwich.

I can't wait to buy poppy seeds, minced garlic [for everything bagels] and raisins [for cinnamon raisin bagels]. What's your favorite bagel?

Have a great day Tadpoles!  See ya' on the flipside.

  2. Looks delicious! I envy people who can eat bagels. Alas, they do not love me.

Are you feeling better then? I mean, besides the no sleep part.

  3. My favorite used to be asiago and parmesan cheese.

But now I'm Gluten free so now it's the sun dried tmato and basil ones from against the grain. They are loaded with butter in the batter and are super flakey. Yummy.

  8. Now I want a bagel. I should walk up to Elaine's since I'm not feeling the energy to make them myself. Onion. Toasted. Slathered in cream cheese.

    Yum.

  11. Why is it that I've never thought of people making homemade bagels? I thought they only came from some unknown bagel dimension and then showed up at the store. YOU, woman, are marvelous. You've cracked the unknown bagel dimension code.

  16. I've never been a big bagel fan, mostly because I haven't found any that I like. But I do like baking and now I'm feeling inspired to try my hand at making them. I made cinnamon rolls last weekend and they were yummy. :)

  19. I am SO impressed. A guy I worked with used to make them. Every St. Patrick's Day he would send a bag of homemade bagels to my office by company messenger. He made me believe they were extremely hard to make. Go you!

  20. Hi Skippy,
My favorite bagel is raspberry from Panera. Warn, toasted, slathered with cream cheese, yummm.

Your bagels look lovely and probably are all gone by now.
